We meet weekly at the MAS NJ Center in North Brunswick, NJ.
No, we are not a school and do not accept drop off students. Every mother is expected to, not only be on premises during classes, but also be engaged in every aspect of the learning process. Sitting on the side and watching everyone else participate is NOT participating.
No, we are not actively matching our learning goals and objectives to formally state-mandated standards. However, it is very likely that we are indeed reaching many of those goals, naturally.
We group children based on social maturity and ability. Generally speaking:
Tots & Level 1 are two separate classes, however are similar in our hands-on approach. Students in this level experience story-time, sensory boxes, toys, and songs to help them engage with their peers and surroundings. Tots include children from walking to age three and require mother’s to stay in the class the entire time. Level 1 is appropriate for children up to age five who are unable to write, focus for long periods of time, and need lots of hands-on activities and one-on-one guidance from others.
Level 2 is appropriate for children from five to seven who are able to trace or write small words or sentences, write their own name, and need more time to move and learn. Students experience less discussion time and generally are working on projects that require them to cut, paste, organize, label, trace, and move.
Level 3 is appropriate for children from eight to ten who are able to comfortably read and write more complex words and sentences on their own, can sit and focus for 15 minutes or more at a time, and need less teacher assistance to complete projects. Students experience more discussion time and complete open answer writing prompts, express personal opinions, conduct experiments, and other activities that require more attention and evaluation.
Level 4 is appropriate for children from eleven to fourteen who are able to construct essay responses, debate with others, work in small groups, complete experiments and complete research and investigations with limited help from teachers or others. Critical thinking and debate are stressed for this level. Students also experience the most independence and highest level of rigor during class time.
Yes, we are a Muslim homeschooling co-op and create our curriculum to include the mention of Allah s.w.t. to be the ultimate force behind all that we experience in our lives. We also ask students to pray in jamaat for Dhuhr prayer for those who are of age or practicing.
Possibly, if we have not yet reached our max enrollment for any level, that will be reflected on our website. Otherwise, if there is no option to choose any levels, then you can try again the following enrollment period.
Generally, we open enrollment for the following school year May 1st. We suggest you sign up immediately to ensure your first choice of options for principal and teacher roles.
